Biography

Angelika Schroeder, Ph.D., is a former tax CPA and college professor of accounting. She was elected by the CD 2 vacancy committee in 2008 to fill an unexpired term on the State Board, then elected to a full six-year term in November 2010. For well over 20 years, Angelika has also been active in education issues at her daughters' schools and at the local district and state levels.

In 1995, she was appointed by Governor Roy Romer as the parent representative to the Teacher and Special Services Professional Standards Board, an advisory board to the SBE on matters of Colorado teacher education, teacher licensing and professional educator standards. From 1999-2007, Angelika served as treasurer and vice president of the Boulder Valley School Board.

Angelika also served on the board and executive committees of the Colorado Association of School Boards and the Alliance for Quality Teaching. Until recently she served on the Committee of Practitioners, a CDE advisory group mandated under No Child Left Behind (NCLB). She also participated in the National School Boards Association (NSBA) Federal Relations Network, communicating with members of Colorado’s congressional delegation on issues regarding NCLB and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

She is presently the State Board's representative to the Teacher Quality Commission and the liaison to the Colorado Association of School Boards. She also serves on the boards of Facing History and Ourselves and the Public Education and Business Coalition.

Angelika's areas of interest on the SBE are budgeting and financial reporting, eliminating Colorado’s achievement gap, implementing the governor’s CAP4K legislation and improving teacher services from CDE. She participated in the National Association of State Boards of Education study groups on 21st Century Educators during 2010 and 2011. In 2012, she received her third consecutive appointment to a NASBE study group on the role of technology in schools and communities.

Angelika earned a B.A. in mathematics, an M.B.A. and a Ph.D. in accounting, all from the University of Colorado. She and her husband, Wayne, have two grown daughters and two grandchildren. Her daughters attended neighborhood public schools in Boulder and both are engaged in science and health education.
